Barack Obama Presidential Inauguration Parade with Harley-Davidson Motorcycles

by Boss Hawg on January 7, 2009

It’s so great to see that Harley-Davidson Motorcycles is once again leading the Presidential Inaugural Parade January 20th with a Flag-flying leader arrayed in the famed “Power V Formation” as the world watches about 50 Harley-Davidson Motorcycles leading Barack Obama’s Inaugural Parade.

This Video shows the Harley Davidson’s in the get ready mode. Up Pennsylvania Avenue will mark the fifth-straight time that bikes supplied by Michael J. Vantucci and his Frederick, Md.-based Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Dealership will help lead Barack Obama’s Inaugural Parade procession. He attributes his bid success to his company’s ability to make many of the special parts specified in the contract, which is worth $360,000 this year.  Vantucci has a machine shop next to his dealership where he produces the radio brackets, wiring harnesses and flag brackets that most customers never see.

“Vantucci credits his company’s expertise in crafting parts with giving him an edge over at least seven other motorcycle dealers who bid on the inauguration contract. “Our whole company gets very, very involved in the inauguration,” Vantucci said. “This is something everybody rallies around.”

G. Greg Hester, Fleet Director for the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department says these bikes are used exclusively for escort and security duty  on an almost daily assignment in the nation’s capital. He said the department specifies bikes from Milwaukee based Harley-Davidson because it is the only maker of police pursuit motorcycles with sidecar attachments.

Three presidents have visited Harley Davidson Motorcycles Springettsbury Township plant where these prestigious custom motorcycles are manufactured: President Ronald Reagan visited in May 1987, President Bill Clinton visited in November 1999, and President George W. Bush visited in August 2006.  Make note that President Bush was the only one of the three to hop on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle during his visit, hopefully Barack Obama will do the same.
